FileFusion helps you find duplicate files on your PC, freeing up disk space. Similar to the classic deletion of similar programs, the free COMPUTER BILD edition also leaves only a physical copy of identical files in “1-click optimization”, but inserts a “hard link” into the place of a distant duplicate. This is a reference to the “twin”.
Advantage: In Explorer, the file still appears in both folders, but occupies only space for a file. If you edit such a file, a physical duplicate will be created again. Likewise, deleting one file version leaves the other one on the hard disk. The purge of “FileFusion” can be undone if desired
Storage space is precious and usually too tight. One approach to detoxify disks is to detect and delete duplicate or multiple existing files. If you do not always want to remove all duplicates from all folders, “FileFusion” is the solution. The software is available exclusively as a free special version at COMPUTER BILD for download.
First, “FileFusion” will detect all duplicate files. For this, the program creates a “digital” fingerprint of all files, with which all files are compared. So “FileFusion” also recognizes the files that have different file names but exactly the same content. Multiple files usually occupy their own storage space. Instead of completely deleting duplicate documents, pictures or videos,
Hard links save space
For deduplication, FileFusion uses hard links to free up the physical space of duplicates. Example: Two folders each contain an identical video file. The classic method deletes one of the two files. FileFusion also deletes the video once but leaves a “reference” to the file in the other folder. Thus, the video still appears in Explorer in both directories, but space is only occupied once. Both folders refer to the same file. Deleting one version of the file leaves the other clip intact.
Now edit one of the “two” videos, this is again stored as a separate movie on the hard drive. What sounds complicated is very easy to do. The “1-click optimization” of “FileFusion” works completely self-sufficient and shows you in the end only the saved space. You yourself do not notice anything about the cleanup in your folders. Optionally, exclude hidden files or choose between five comparison algorithms. If desired, undo the entire cleaning process with a mouse click.
